The Association of Women's Organizations (GOW) of West Papua held a visit and training at Jumputageman SMEs, Jalan Golo UH 5/896, Kemantren Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, Sunday (29/05/2022). The visit was led by Mrs. Regent – Faujia Helga BR Tampubolon with Rosmiati B as Mrs. Deputy Regent and Chairperson of GOW Raja Ampat West Papua. The visit was received directly by Nur Herwiyanti as the Owner of Jumputageman.
During the training activities, a Bazaar for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) products was also held, including fashion, craft and culinary. Faujia Helga in his remarks said, among other things, that GOW Raja Ampat has actually developed a typical regional batik, Raja Ampat.
“There is even 1 piece/piece of batik which sells for Rp. 17 million. After the Covid-19 outbreak, whether it was a human resource error or the management of the batik business was forced to stop," he said.
In a situation like this, GOW also wants to make batik breakthroughs that are easy to produce with affordable selling prices, one of which is the sibori technique, the production process is not too long.
Meanwhile, Nur Herwiyanti on that occasion delivered material and accompanied 30 GOW members to practice making Sibori in just 1 hour. He emphasized that Sibori is not actually batik. "If batik is made using wax, Sibori is the technique of making it by folding it," he said.
To accelerate mastery of the material, combining theory and practice. "I convey the theory while practicing to speed up the process of mastering making Sibori," he said.
It was emphasized that participants do not need to be afraid of making mistakes, how to start the process of mixing colors. “Whatever the result, the practice of making Sibori can be directly used for souvenirs. You can immediately take them back to Raja Ampat,” he said.
Nur Herwiyanti added, as an artisan of Sibori, Jumputan, ecoprint and contemporary batik in Yogya, various types of batik are still in demand by the public, including tourists.
