Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw raised his voice regarding the statement of the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe who rejected the plan for regional expansion or the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Bumi Cenderawasih.
Mathius said Governor Lukas Enembe must be honest in responding to the aspirations of the Papuan people regarding the new autonomous regions, wrapped with data and facts.
"We have to be honest with the facts that exist according to the customary territory. We talk about the aspirations of the community, not the thoughts of individuals or talking on the street, because all of that has a mechanism," said Mathius to Tribun-Papua.com, in Sentani, Monday ( 30/05/2022).
He also suggested that the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) must also submit a statement based on data to the applicable mechanism.
"Through the trial, and there were minutes, the attendance list, so the chairman of the MRP he spoke through the results of the decisions, and the regulated mechanism, then the aspirations were brought, because the MRP represents indigenous peoples," he explained.
It is said, MRP must be able to bring the aspirations of various customary areas in Papua.
"All that needs to be formulated and scheduled, then conveyed to the public. But what they are conveying now is not the result through that," he said.
Previously, Papua Governor Lukas Enembe firmly rejected the central government's plan for the expansion of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Cenderawasih Earth.
This statement was conveyed by Lukas Enembe at the Liaison Office of the Papua Province Government, in Jakarta, on Friday (28/05/2022).
"Regarding this refusal, I together with the Chair of the DPR and the Chair of the MRP have signed. So I don't want to talk. I told them to refuse," he said in a video received by Tribun-Papua.com, Saturday (28/05/2022) night.
Lukas said that the plan to expand the territory in Papua had sparked reactions from various groups, especially those who were against it.
He admitted that he was surprised because the plan for the expansion of new autonomous regions in Papua suddenly appeared, without coordination with the Papua Provincial Government.
"Actually, where did this DOB plan in Papua come from, how come it suddenly turned out like this," asked Lukas.
Lukas admitted that he knew exactly the condition of the Papuan people who were faced with the current new autonomous region plan.
"I know very well the community and my employees. Money is limited, how do I want to bring people in. This is not possible," he explained.
Moreover, according to Lukas, there has been no significant local revenue so far in 29 regencies/cities in Papua.
Regions, said Lukas, still depend on the General Allocation Fund (DAU).
"Moreover, 3 provinces will be expanded again. Where will we take the money from to meet regional costs? In a democracy like this, it is not allowed," he said.
Meanwhile, the Papuan People's Assembly (MRP) also firmly rejected the expansion of the Papua region.
The chairman of the MRP, Timothy Murib, explained three basic reasons why his party rejected the new autonomous regions.
First, currently there is still a moratorium policy or temporary suspension of the formation of new autonomous regions.
Then, the plan to expand it without scientific studies and other factors is that the Regional Original Income (PAD) of 29 regencies/cities is still very low.
In addition, continued Murib, the plan for the expansion of three regions in Papua cannot guarantee the welfare of the people on Earth of Cenderawasih.
"Because there are no provisions that can explain welfare guarantees in the legislation," he explained.
