The Regent of Puncak, Willem Wandik, said that the expansion or New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Papua was very beneficial, especially for Papuan Indigenous People (OAP), starting from creating job opportunities, budget cycles to development in Cenderawasih Earth.
“If the division of Papua is formed, it is estimated that Rp 60-80 trillion will circulate in one fiscal year. So it is certain that the economy will grow and have an impact on the welfare of the Papuan people," Wandik said when met by reporters in Jayapura, Saturday (28/5/2022).
According to Wandik, according to the bill, which was agreed at the plenary session of the DPR on April 12, it was stated that the formation of 3 new provinces in Papua, namely the Bill on the South Papua Province, the Bill on the Establishment of the Central Papua Province and the Bill on the Establishment of the Central Highlands Province of Papua.
Even the DPR RI has received a Presidential Letter (Surpres) on the bill for the expansion of Papua on Sunday (15/5/2022).
“DOB is not just a discourse, but is actually happening in Papua. Even in June, the suppression will be under discussion and will be ratified as soon as possible," he said.
Wandik explained, if these 3 provinces were divided, there would be regional heads, governors and deputy governors for OAP. The reason is, in the Special Autonomy Law, it is stated that regional heads at the provincial level are led by OAP.
Then, in the opening of job opportunities, the 3 regions that are divided will require a lot of State Civil Apparatus (ASN), who will work for the existing agencies.
“And this can be filled by scholars in Papua. Cenderawasih University graduates, once graduated there are 1000 people. Imagine, if these scholars are distributed to new autonomous regions, the job opportunities will be wide open,” he said.
In terms of employment opportunities for ASN can already be calculated, not to mention other jobs, such as services or entrepreneurship and others.
The Regent of Wandik understands that OAP is concerned about the risk of DOB that many people from outside Papua will enter and live on Papuan land.
He said, the dynamics of concern in developing countries or regions is the emergence of new people in that place. The United States, for example, has very few native citizens and many people from outside the United States come to the area bringing many benefits, for example from India, China, Indonesia and others.
"Same with Papua. OAP is currently very little. However, whether we like it or not, DOB is a gift and God's answer and the result of praying together with all OAPs," he concluded.
