KSP Believes Wamendagri John Wempi Wetipo Accelerates Papuan Development

Deputy V Chief of Presidential Staff Jaleswari Pramodhawardani assessed that the presence of John Wempi Wetipo as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) could accelerate and strengthen the government's performance in developing Papua.

The reason is, currently there are still some areas in Papua that still need attention because their development is lagging behind.

"As a former member of the region, he understands very well about Papua's Special Autonomy (Otsus)," Jaleswari said in a written statement, Thursday (16/6/2022).

The appointment of Wetipo as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, he continued, became a new history in the era of the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin government because for the first time a Papuan son became the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

This senior LIPI researcher sees Wetipo's position as Wamendagri can provide support to the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian in preparing several important agendas related to Papua's development.

The development of Papua in question includes the establishment of a special agency for Papua Special Autonomy Management or BP3OKP, and finalizing the master plan for the acceleration of Papua's development, as well as supporting the acceleration of development through the establishment of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua.

According to Jaleswari, the presence of Wetipo, who is very understanding of field conditions and has a good communication network in the region, will help accelerate the development of welfare in Papua. In addition, Otsus can produce greater benefits.

Meanwhile, before serving as Wamendagri, Wetipo was Deputy Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR). Then on Wednesday (15/6/2022) President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was inaugurated as Wamendagri on 15 June 2022.
