Papua Governor Lukas Enembe expressed his support for the division of the province in Papua.
This support was conveyed directly by Lukas Enembe when he met the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian at the Ministry of Home Affairs Office, Central Jakarta, last Friday (17/6/2022).
During the meeting, Tito directly asked Lukas Enembe about his attitude towards the division of Papua, who was reported to have expressed his refusal.
"We are ready, Minister, we support," answered Lukas Enembe quickly.
Hearing that answer, Tito shook Luke Enembe's hand tightly while patting him on the back.
"I support the expansion for the purpose of developing the welfare of the Papuan people," said Lukas Enembe.
The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, responded positively to Lukas Enembe's support.
He admitted that Lukas Enembe had supported the expansion plan for a long time.
"If we expand, it must be followed by a united will, how to build, accelerate development for the welfare of the people," said Lukas Enembe in Jakarta.
Lukas Enembe said that he had supported the division of Papua since 2014.
He proposed that the territory in Papua be divided into seven provinces.
At this meeting, Tito conveyed his views on the government's latest policy regarding the division of Papua with the plan to form three New Autonomous Regions (DOB), namely the provinces of Central Papua, Central Mountains and South Papua whose bills are currently being processed in the DPR.
Tito emphasized that President Jokowi paid serious attention to the development and progress of Papua.
This can be seen from the frequent visits by the President to Papua to remote areas, up to 14 times.
"The division and the new Special Autonomy Law are designed to accelerate Papua's development and improve the welfare of Papuans," said Tito Karnavian.
Tito Karnavian then explained about the very difficult geographical conditions of Papua.
For example, ASN from Boven Digul, has to travel 8 hours to get to Merauke.
Also from the Central Mountains area it is very difficult to access the provincial capital, Jayapura.
“The expansion is expected to be able to overcome these obstacles and make public services by the government faster. The proof is that West Papua is developing as it is now because of the division," said Tito Karnavian.
During the meeting, Lukas Enembe had also suggested to the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito, that the scenario for the division of Papua should be divided based on customary territory into seven provinces.
