In an effort to support the acceleration of development in Papua, the Directorate General of Politics and Public Administration, the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Directorate of National Vigilance held a Casual Discussion with the theme "Strategies for Accelerating Development in Papua". This discussion was held at the Kopiah Emas Cafe, South Jakarta, Monday (16/5/2022) and was attended by Papuan students and youth. Meanwhile, in this discussion, three speakers were presented, namely Cendrawasih University Academics Marinus Yaung, KNPI DPP from Papua Arman Aso and Papuan Youth Leader Charles Kosay.
Papuan Youth Leader Charles Kosay in his presentation said that speaking of the Strategy for the Acceleration of Development in Papua, the Government has evaluated the implementation of Special Autonomy with the issuance of Law (UU) Number 2 of 2021 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Province. Papuans. With the change in the Special Autonomy Law, education, health, governance and the development of human resources and infrastructure have become better.
"With this change in Special Autonomy, it has a good impact on education, health, governance and the development of human resources and infrastructure in Papua. So that Papua can compete with other regions in Indonesia"
On that occasion he also said that in the mandate of Otsus there was a policy of the expansion of New Autonomous Regions (DOB). The policy for the formation of the new area is to respond to the span of control between the government and the community. Considering that Papua has a very wide area and complex problems.
For information, the DPR and the government have agreed to expand three new provinces in Papua. On April 12, 2022, the DPR approved three new autonomous regional bills in Papua as a DPR initiative bill. The three bills include the South Papua Province Bill, the Central Papua Province Bill, and the Central Highlands Papua Province Bill.
On the other hand, Papuan KNPI DPP Arman Aso in the discussion said that the formation of new autonomous regions was a challenge for youth. He hopes that with the government's desire to be serious in supporting development in Papua, it must be balanced with the role of youth so that the policies implemented can run optimally.
Meanwhile, University of Cendrawasih Academician Marinus Yaung on his opportunity said that speaking of the problem of accelerating development in Papua, there are two things that need to be considered. The first is "capital" and the second is human resources or human readiness.
"Speaking of the acceleration of Papua's development, we can see it through two things, namely capital and people. Capital is defined as the policies and regulations that have been given to Papua. This has been given by the central government in terms of Special Autonomy. So the second point is related to the readiness of human resources as the main subject. in supporting the acceleration of development in Papua."
In addition, Marinus said that to accelerate development in Papua, the state had issued an article related to the division of Papua. This is to answer the problem of social equity. Because economic growth without social equity can be the root of problems and conflicts.
In closing, Marinus said that the new autonomous regions were one of the steps in supporting the acceleration of development in Papua. "The government's goals in establishing new autonomous regions are for social equity, accelerating development, improving public services, and increasing Papuan human dignity. So that the rich are not only urban and remote people," he concluded.
