The discourse on the rejection of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua has recently been carried out by a group of people and organizations.
In addition to the rejection of the new autonomous region in Papua, there are also those who reject the special autonomy (Otsus) which has been running on Earth of Cenderawasih.
It is known that the Papua Special Autonomy policy has provided tremendous benefits for the Papuan people.
The policy implemented in accordance with Law No. 21 of 2001, from a budget perspective, has reached Rp126 trillion.
This is proof of the Central Government's commitment to accelerate Papua's development, in terms of human resources and infrastructure.
Quoting from the Kontan.co.id page, Asmat Deputy Regent Thomas Eppe Safanpo explained, many Papuan students received scholarships to study from the Special Autonomy Fund.
Then the Papuan youth who managed to enter the police service were also the army, in terms of the cost of education it came from the special autonomy fund.
In fact, various traditional and religious institutions in Papua actually enjoy the Special Autonomy funds.
So, if there is a refusal from the recipient of the special autonomy fund, it is clearly unfair and wrong.
Unfortunately, the various advantages were not properly socialized by the provincial government.
Although there are still shortcomings, in the past 20 years to date, the presence of Otsus has provided enormous benefits that are focused on four priority programs.
Such as, aspects of education, health, infrastructure, to community economic empowerment.
This is proof that the Central Government's attention to Papua is so great.
Therefore, he requested that the provincial governments of Papua and West Papua, to be more open, convey data on the benefits of the Special Autonomy funds and for what purposes.
Talking about the success of Otsus in Papua, Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tomi Mano (BTM) said Otsus was very helpful.
"I am a person who opposes, and expels, if someone holds a meeting to reject Otsus, so that in Jayapura City no one refuses, because these people who incidentally reject Otsus, are against the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and want to ask for independence," said BTM when meeting with member of Commission I DPR RI Yan Permenas Mandenas, Wednesday (20/4/2022) in Jayapura.
Furthermore, Benhur reiterated that Papua has legally entered the lap of the Republic of Indonesia since May 1, 1969, and cannot be distorted by anyone.
Then, the man from Port Numbay urged that the division of Papua should be carried out, and his party fully supports the formation of 3 provinces, namely South Papua, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains.
"The expansion plan will continue immediately, and don't listen to people who reject the expansion, because they have never asked the opinion of the Mayor of Jayapura," he stressed again.
Separately, Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Papuan People's Representative Council (DPR), Paskalis Letsoin assessed that the presence of the new autonomous regions (DOB) of South Papua Province (PPS) covering the districts of Merauke, Asmat, Mappi, and Boven Digoel was appropriate.
"I think that Merauke Regency and its surroundings really need an expansion of South Papua Province because this has been a long struggle," said the chairman of the PDIP faction in Papua Province to Tribun-Papua.com, Saturday (30/4/2022).
According to Paskalis Letsoin, the very wide presence of South Papua Province will reach services to remote areas.
"The very large areas of South Papua Province can be reached by the government or other public services. It is very positive for community development," said the Kei-blooded man from Merauke.
The sectors that must be boosted, said Paskalis Letsoin, are education, health, and providing space and space for indigenous Papuans (OAP) in South Papua Province to lead this area.
According to Paskalis Letsoin, the appointment of Merauke as the capital city of South Papua Province is also correct.
"Merauke deserves to be designated as the capital of South Papua Province," he said.
