Member of Commission II of the DPR from the PDI-P faction Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda or commonly called Rifqi said the DPR is targeting the ratification of 3 Draft Laws for the Expansion of Papua in June 2022. This, said Rifqi, is adjusted to the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Elections which are scheduled to start on June 14, 2024.
"We are trying to make sure that before June 2022, the entire bill can be ratified by the Indonesian House of Representatives," Rifqi told reporters, Saturday (16/4/2022).
Rifqi said, the 3 bills for the Province of the Expansion of Papua have been ratified by the DPR as a proposed DPR initiative bill in a plenary meeting on April 12, 2022. The DPR is waiting for the president's letter (surpres) and the problem inventory list (DIM) from the government to immediately discuss the 3 bills, namely the Bill on the Province of South Papua (Ha Anim), the Bill on the Province of Central Papua (Meepago), and the Bill on the Province of the Central Mountains (Lapago).
According to Rifqi, ratification is targeted for June 2022 so that the 3 new provinces can participate in the 2024 Simultaneous General Election and Regional Head Election. This is because each new autonomous region has its own electoral district that needs to be regulated quickly so that it can adapt to the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Election.
"Because one of the consequences of the formation of a new province means that later in the formation of electoral districts (dapils) for the 2024 General Election, especially the Pilleg they will become a separate electoral district as stipulated in the Election Law, because there may be additional seats in the DPR RI, DPD RI, including additional seats in the DPR RI, DPD RI. electoral district. So it must be resolved immediately so that it is in sync with the stages of the 2024 election that we will carry out," he explained.
In line with that, Chairman of the Expertise Board of the DPR Inosentius Samsul said the target for ratification in June 2022 is because it is related to the budget and stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Election. The reason is that budget discussions and the implementation of the election stages have started in June 2022. According to him, if it passes that time, then the factor the driving force for the formation of 3 provinces began to decrease.
"It is hoped that it will be completed in June because it is related to the budget and agenda for the 2024 General Election. After that, it seems a bit difficult, the considerations for the agenda, the arguments and the urgency are not too (important), because in June the APBN (discussion) was entered and then preparations were made. In preparation for the 2024 General Election, whether it becomes a electoral district and so on must be determined as soon as possible," Inosenius explained.
