There is no need to worry for Papuan students who are abroad. The Ministry of Home Affairs sent a team to Papua to ensure budgeting and continuation of scholarships for Papuan students in several countries abroad, such as the United States, Australia, Britain, and several other countries.
The team consisted of the Daily Executive Director General of Regional Financial Development Agus Fatoni, Director of Regional Budget Planning Directorate General of Bina Keuda, and a technical team in Jayapura to hold a meeting with the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov).
"We are going to Papua according to orders from the Minister of Home Affairs to ensure the budget for scholarships for students studying abroad," said Fatoni, Wednesday, February 2, 2022.
Coordination between the central, provincial, and district/city governments is the key to the success of this overseas scholarship program. Moreover, increasing the capacity of human resources is one of President Joko Widodo's main priority programs in the second period of his leadership.
Based on information on overseas scholarship payments for 2021, it will be completed according to the invoice from each university. Meanwhile, for the need for scholarships in 2022, the financing scheme is ready.
"It is planned that the Governor of Papua and the regents/mayors will hold a coordination meeting on February 15-18, 2022 to discuss this scholarship," said Fatoni.
The issue of scholarships for Papuan students has previously been discussed by ministries/agencies. Fatoni explained that the discussion on resolving this issue was between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Indonesian Ambassador to America, the Education Attaché at the American Embassy, the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu), and the Papua Provincial Government.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Papua Province Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) said that the delay in payment of the 2021 scholarships was partly because there had been no submission of bills or invoices for the fall semester from the campus to the Papua Provincial Government.
The Papua Provincial Government has actually budgeted for all scholarships for 2021. In fact, the need for scholarships for 2022 also has a budget.
