First in Papua, Green Building and BIM Thumburuni Market

The Ministry of PUPR continues to be committed to realizing reliable infrastructure development in the provinces of Papua and West Papua to reduce poverty, reduce the expensive index and equitable distribution of infrastructure development throughout Indonesia. The Ministry of PUPR through the Directorate General of Human Settlements built the Thumburuni Market to support the economic activities of the people of West Papua. The start of the construction was marked by the groundbreaking activity on Wednesday (9/2/2022) in Fakfak Regency, West Papua.

The groundbreaking was carried out by Fakfak Regent Untung Tamsil accompanied by Fakfak Deputy Regent Yohana Diana Hindom, Head of West Papua Regional Settlement Infrastructure (BPPW) Marsudi, and representatives of the Fakfak Regency Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda). The groundbreaking event was also witnessed by the Director of Strategic Infrastructure of the Directorate General of Human Settlements Essy Asiah and representatives of the Directorate General of Domestic Trade of the Ministry of Trade via virtual conference.

In a virtual speech, Director of Strategic Infrastructure Essy Asiah explained that Thumburuni Market has implemented the Green Building (BGH) principle at the planning stage and in its construction implementation it is also required that Service Providers apply Building Information Modeling (BIM). On this basis, Thumburuni Market is a market with the First Green Building Concept and applies BIM in Papua.

"Our hope is that the application of green building principles is not only in the planning stage, but also in implementation, as well as operation and maintenance. In addition, we also apply BIM for buildings above 2000 m2, so that Thumburuni Market can become a role model in Fakfak Regency, which will later create ease of implementation," he said.

Essy said, this is a form of the Ministry of PUPR's efforts to encourage the application of smart and green buildings and advances in digital construction technology throughout the country. Furthermore, Essy said that in realizing the sustainability of Thumburuni Market, the Fakfak Regency Government should prepare good and professional management, both in relation to the management agency and adequate operating and maintenance costs, considering the market area and the planned number of kiosks are quite large.

"Don't forget that service providers carry out 5T, namely on time, right quality, right cost, right administration, and right benefits in order to become a market that is useful for traders and also the local people," said Essy.

The construction of the Thumburuni Market is a follow-up to the Letter of the Regent of Fakfak regarding the Request for Rebuilding the Thumburuni Market which was burned down due to the social unrest in 2019. The development of the Thumburuni Market was carried out to restore the function of the market as an infrastructure for trade and the people's economy so that it became a safe, comfortable, clean, orderly and better building. Thumburuni Market is a modern market with a land area of 9,568 m2, a building area of 13,563 m2 and a building height of 4 floors which will later meet the basic needs, clothing and electronics of the people around Fakfak Regency.
