Second Sergeant Miskel Rumbiak, a Combat Engineer Battalion 20/PPA personnel who died during armed contact with Papuan armed groups in Maybrat Regency on January 20, 2022, was buried in Raja Ampat, Friday.

The body of the Kusuma Nation soldier was buried at his place of birth, in the village of Priwen Waigeo, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua, militarily.

The military funeral ceremony was led by the Commander of the 1805/Raja Ampat Kodim, Lieutenant Colonel Infantry Stevie Joan Klots. In the ceremony the deceased was given a promotion to a higher rank, posthumous first sergeant.

The military funeral procession was accompanied by the sobs of the family and hundreds of Friwen Village residents who were also present to deliver the bodies of the deceased.

Head of Information for Kodam XVIII/Kasuari, Colonel Arm Hendra Pesireron, said that the best soldier from Raja Ampat died while serving in the community, so he was promoted to a higher rank of first sergeant posthumously.

He explained that the deceased was a soldier of the 20th Combat Engineer Battalion/PPA who was building a pedestrian bridge, the only access link between Fan Khario Village and Kamat Village in East Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, but they were then attacked by Papuan armed groups.

Pesireron further stated that it was strongly suspected that the attack group of five personnel of the 20th Combat Engineer Battalion/PPA came from the same group, namely the West Papua National Committee (KNPB).

"We strongly suspect that they are the KNPB Maybrat group which has DPO status after the attack on the preparatory Koramil post in Kisor Village last September 2021," said Kapendam.

Pesireron at a glance explained that the personnel of the 20th Combat Engineer Battalion/Pawbili Pelle Alang were organic engineers battalion of Kodam XVIII/Kasuari.
