Paulus Waterpauw and Roma Pasaribu Motivate Uncen's Students

Head of the National Police Security Intelligence Agency (Kabaintelkam) Komjen Pol Drs Paulus Waterpauw motivates students at Cenderawasih University (Uncen) to continue studying to achieve their goals.

"So, brothers and sisters, go to college while you are still young," said Waterpauw on the sidelines of a Group Discussion Forum (FGD) with the theme of Socio-Cultural Resilience and Papuan Development in a National Perspective at the Faculty of Economics and Business Building Uncen Perumnas III, Yabansai Village, District Heram, Jayapura City, Papua, Tuesday (19/10/2021).

According to Waterpauw, while still young, Papuan millennials who are of school and college age should be in college so that they can improve their standard of living even more.

"Don't be like me and Mrs. Roma, going to college again when you are old. But when you are young, you go to college from S1, S2 to S3," he said.

In fact, during his time as a police commissioner (Kompol), Waterpauw admitted that he continued his studies to master's degree, but because of his busy work as a civil servant, it only materialized at a fairly old age.

"Actually at that time, we wanted to study at the rank of Kompol or major, but because of our activities as a police officer, we just started studying again," he said.

Meanwhile, Roma Megawanti Pasaribu as a speaker in the FGD revealed the reason why she had just continued her master's degree in order to answer the participants' questions.

"We have only just been able to study Masters, because we are busy taking care of the children, apart from accompanying our husbands," said Pasaribu.

Pasaribu explained that regarding education for her three children, there is no gender discrimination.

"My first daughter asked to study abroad, we fulfilled it, even though the initial tests at the two well-known universities passed. That means we don't separate out that you are a woman and you are a man, everyone gets the same portion," he said.

Likewise the second and third children when asking for the same thing to study abroad.

"Even though in the end the boys asked to go home because they said they didn't feel at home and are now studying at STIN. Meanwhile, the youngest child also had time to go to school outside and return to study in Indonesia," he explained.

At this moment, Pasaribu motivates Uncen students to keep their enthusiasm for studying to achieve their goals.

To Bhayangkari mothers or households so they can direct and prepare their children for college," he said.

The day before, the Kabaintelkam Polri Komjen Pol Drs Paulus Waterpauw was present as a speaker with the Professor of Law at the University of Cenderawasih (Uncen) Prof. Dr. Melkias Hetharia MHum, the Secretary of the City of Jayapura Dr. Frans Pekey MSi, and the Head of the National Resilience Study Program at the University of Indonesia Dr Arthur Josias Runtutambi with moderator Dr. Audrey GD Tangkudung with the same topic.
