A Papuan figure who now serves as the Head of the National Police's Head of Intelligence and Security, Commissioner General Paulus Waterpauw, said that the 2021 PON XX Papua will give a lot of meaning to the local community. One of them is increasing the dignity of the Papuan people.
Paulus Waterpauw thanked President Joko Widodo, Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali and the TNI-Polri as well as the Provincial Government of Papua and the local City Government for collaborating so that the XX Papua PON 2021 runs smoothly. PON XX Papua 2021 officially closed today, Friday (15/10/2021).
"As a figure in Papua, I think I should give a great appreciation and appreciation to the President, the Menpora and other ministers, the Commander in Chief, the National Police Chief, and also at the provincial governor level, there are the regents and mayors. I I think it's an extraordinary work together. His enthusiasm grows hotly," said Paulus Waterpauw when he was a resource person with the tone of Menpora Amali in a dialogue entitled Fate of Venue After PON Papua, Friday (10/15/2021).
According to Paulus, as part of the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), Papua naturally feels the same way as other provinces in Indonesia, including hosting the National Sports Week. And, the Papuan people have proven that they can organize activities safely and smoothly.
"There are many doubts about security, peace, whether this activity can be held, in fact it can, in fact it is safe. The PON activity was held successfully," he said.
With the success of this activity, according to him, it also raises the dignity of Papua, that Papua is the same as other Indonesian people.
"I think this shows how the dignity of the Papuan people is, Papuans have appeared here. So far, many people have doubted, but today with PON our dignity has increased, meaning we are the same as other brothers and sisters," he said.
Paulus, who is also a former athlete, revealed that Papua has always had advantages in sporting achievements in various sports such as athletics, boxing, rowing and football. Thus, he hopes that with the post-PON venues, Papuan athlete development can produce athletes with international achievements.
