The government continues to synergize to accelerate development in Papua. Synergy is carried out at the central, provincial, district/city levels, to the community. Therefore, for the implementation of good acceleration and maximum results felt by the community, development synergies are also needed both in terms of welfare and security.
"Therefore, development in Papua must harmonize welfare and security," said Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin when giving his press statement after visiting the MacArthur Monument, in Jayapura, Papua, Saturday (06/11/2021).
Furthermore, the Vice President said that this harmonization could occur by listening to the aspirations of various elements of the community in Papua so that the results achieved would be realistic and in accordance with the needs and desires of the local community.
"We want to build according to the needs of the community, the wishes of the community, both indigenous peoples and the whole community," he said.
Related to this, added the Vice President, during his visit to close the Papua National Sports Week (PON) some time ago, he held a coordination meeting by involving traditional leaders, religious leaders, youths, women from various clusters.
"We invite local champions from various clusters to have a dialogue to convey [views], and we collect those views to make a realistic program," he added.
But on the other hand, the Vice President considered that the acceleration of this development could not run well if from a security perspective it was still a concern. Therefore, the Vice President has ordered the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) to lead coordination related to security in Papua with the TNI Commander, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), and the Minister of Home Affairs. State so that security measures in Papua can be well integrated.
"But it is true that this development will not be able to run if security is not controlled, it is not conducive. Therefore, these two things become an integrated program,” explained the Vice President.
"That's why I recently held a coordination meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, with the TNI Commander, with the National Police Chief, the Head of BIN and also from the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate future steps, so that things are more coordinated," he continued.
Closing his press statement, the Vice President expressed hope that the efforts that have been made by the government regarding the harmonization of welfare and security in Papua can succeed in the acceleration program that has been designed and eliminate dissatisfaction and distrust that may occur in Papua towards the government.
"Thus, we hope that this will give the trust of the Papuan people, from Papuan leaders, both government figures, traditional leaders, religious leaders, women's leaders. We will continue to hold dialogues in order to eliminate dissatisfaction. With the dissatisfaction that is getting less and less, we hope that it will affect the overall security condition in Papua. I think that's the hope of the central government," he said.
