PHILIPUS MOMOT: “OTSUS WILL GIVE WELFARE IMPACTS FOR THE PEOPLE OF PAPUA”

The Draft Law (RUU) concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 21 of 2021 concerning Special Autonomy for the Papua Province (Otsus Papua) was officially ratified as a Law (UU) in a Plenary Meeting at the DPR, Thursday (15/7/2021).

Otsus in Tanah Papua has been running for 20 years, along the way, many things have been achieved, but some need to be improved. One example that needs improvement is concerning the equitable distribution of development among districts/cities in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua. For this reason, strategic policies need to be taken, including by making changes to Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Province of Papua.

The discussion of the Second Amendment Bill to Law Number 21 of 2001 is a joint effort and a manifestation of the commitment of the Government, DPR and DPD RI to improve the welfare of the Papuan people as an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Philipus Momot, SE., MM as the Chairman of the LMA of the Tehit Kab. Sorong Selatan expressed its gratitude and appreciation to the government for ratifying the Special Autonomy Bill no. 21 of 2021. “Our hope is to represent all Papuan people in Kab. Sorong Selatan so that the bill that has been passed can be implemented properly so that it will have an impact on the welfare of the people of South Sorong or the Land of Papua in general,” said Philipus.

Otsus is not only about money, continued Philipus, but also many other benefits such as affirmation of education for Papuan children. For example, the provision of special quotas for Papuan sons and daughters to become IPDN cadets, STIN, and others. In addition, there are also many full scholarship programs for Papuan children who are studying outside Papua, both domestically and abroad.

Philipus invites and hopes that all Papuan people can take advantage and support the sustainability of Otsus for the welfare and progress of development in the Land of Papua.
