Ahead of PON, Istora Development in Papua is Almost Completed




PT PP (Persero) Tbk is completing the construction of the Papua Sports Palace (Istora) project. As for the construction of Istora Papua to welcome the National Sports Week (PON) event.

President Director of PP Novel Arsyad said that currently the progress of the completion of Istora Papua has reached 98 percent. Supporting infrastructure readiness is very important in the biggest sporting event in Indonesia.

"The Ministry of PUPR and the Regional Government of Papua Province are given responsibility and trust by the Central Government to build venues to support the PON event, one of which is the Istora Papua," he said.

Novel explained that Istora Papua is a multifunctional venue with a capacity of 3,674 seats. This number consists of a grandstand of 3,148 seats, VIP 510 seats, and VVIP 16 seats. In addition, Istora Papua has the capacity of eight badminton courts, one basketball court, six volleyball courts, a Gymnastic arena, and a warm-up area.

The project, which is owned by the PUPR Ministry, is located in Kampung Harapan, East Sentani District, Jayapura, Papua. The Venue Istora Papua is a building with a typical Papuan architectural design. This can be seen from the shape of the roof covering of Istora Papua which resembles a Papuan honai which symbolizes unity and unity.

Istora Papua was built in August 2019 and has an area of ​​7,740 square meters. This venue is the largest Istora in Indonesia, surpassing the Gelora Bung Karno stadium, which is located in Jakarta.

The project, which has a contract value of Rp. 278 billion, is undertaken with an implementation period of 23 months. The scope of work includes structural work, architectural work, Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) work, arena work, landscape work, and others.
