Budi Arif Situmeang in his statement, Monday (10/1/2022) said TNI soldiers went directly to the area of inter-tribal clashes in Wouma District to defuse, isolate, and dispel mass groups in order to prevent the spread of tribal clashes in the area. Dandim explained that clashes occurred between two community groups from the Lanny Jaya Tribe and Nduga Tribe residents in Wouma District, Jayawijaya Regency.
"The incident was triggered by allegations of murder by the people of Lanny Jaya to Nduga residents on behalf of Yonas Kelnea (48). The victim was allegedly killed due to family problems," said Dandim 1702/Jayawijaya.
Dandim said on Sunday afternoon (9/1) clashes broke out again. The two groups of people attacked each other using traditional war tools.
"However, the TNI and the police who were on standby managed to disperse the crowd," said the Dandim.
As a result of clashes between residents on Saturday (8/1), according to the Dandim, one victim died, 22 people were injured, four honai units caught fire, 35 houses burned down, 2 cars and 4 motorbikes caught fire.
"Currently, security forces from Kodim 1702/JWY, Infantry Battalion 756/WMS, and Jayawijaya Police are on standby at the scene and are trying to ask both parties to exercise restraint. Approaches with community leaders from each conflicting group have been carried out. war has also been invited to defuse the group," said Dandim
