Ministry of Transportation Adds Two Sea Toll Routes in 2022, West Papua Logistics Line Connects Directly with Java Island

The Ministry of Transportation is optimizing by adding 2 Sea Toll route routes from 32 to 34 in 2022 in order to improve goods transportation services via ships in Indonesian territory. The changes are contained in the Decree of the Director General of Sea Transportation Number KP - DJPL 8 of 2022.

Acting Director General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Arif Toha in a written statement in Jakarta, Thursday, said that in order to support the distribution of goods and economic development in remote and underdeveloped areas as well as in an effort to reduce price disparities between the western part of Indonesia and Indonesia. For the eastern part, it is necessary to have continuous and regular shipping through the implementation of sea freight transportation to all parts of Indonesia.

"The first changes to the route network in the context of optimizing the implementation of the Implementation of Public Service Obligations for Sea Freight for Fiscal Year 2022 are on the T-11, T-19, T-22, T-23, T-24, T-25, T-22 routes. 26 (change of base port and addition of stopover port) and addition of the T-30 route," Arif said as quoted by Antara, Thursday (6/1/2021).

Arif revealed that the new T30 Sea Toll route will serve the Tanjung Perak - Kaimana - Tanjung Perak route so that the logistics flow in the area in the West Papua region is directly connected to the island of Java.

"Kaimana Port has an existing pier with a length of 123 x 8 meters that can accommodate ships with a standard capacity of up to 14,000 DWT and a depth of -8 mLWS," said Arif.

Arif explained that the presence of the Sea Toll Road at the Kaimana Port is proof that the state is here to expedite the distribution of logistics in Eastern Indonesia. Previously, the sea toll route to Kaimana Port had been served by the T27 route which served the Merauke - Dobo - Elat - Tual - Kaimana - Biak - Serui - Nabire - Elat - Merauke route.

"The Sea Highway is expected to help smooth distribution supplies in the area and encourage the economy of local residents in order to optimize the return load later," explained Arif.

Arif explained that the operation of ships on the Sea Toll route is carried out by the National Sea Transportation Company through the mechanism of assignment and public auction with rights and obligations regulated in the Legislation.
