380 Papuan Police personnel to help deal with floods and landslides in Jayapura



The Papuan Regional Police (Polda) deployed 380 personnel to assist in handling the floods and landslides that occurred in Jayapura City, Papua.

The Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Pol. Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said the personnel consisted of the Mobile Brigade, Samapta and Polairud units.

"The 380 personnel were dispatched to assist the Jayapura and Jayapura City Police in handling the floods and landslides that occurred in the city," said Kamal, quoted from a written statement received in Jakarta, Saturday.

According to Kamal, the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Pol Mathias D Fakhiri directly led the personnel down to the location of the flood and landslide points, to then carry out evacuation or help to the victims.

"The personnel carry out integrated handling with relevant agencies at the point where landslides occur, fallen trees and there is material due to landslides on roads and cleaning irrigation/drainage channels or sewers that clog water flow," said Kamal.

Apart from the Kapolda, said Kamal, the main Papuan Polda officials were directly involved to go to the field to lead the process of handling floods and landslides.
 
The deployed personnel also carry out patrols to check progress as well as monitor the increase in fatalities. He then advised the public to be aware of the continued heavy rainfall.

In dealing with natural disasters in Jayapura, Kamal said a coordination meeting had also been held with the Jayapura City Forkopimda.

As a result of the coordination meeting, the forkopimda ranks established a shelter for refugees centered at the Tanah Hitam Social Education and Training Center. The Mayor of Jayapura will also issue a decree (SK) on the emergency response status.

"Then establish a main post in GOR Waringin with 3 auxiliary posts (Organda, Yautefa Market and SMA 4 Jayapura)," he said.

Kamal added that Papuan Regional Police and Forkopimda personnel also assisted in the management of letters or documents that were lost due to the disaster.

"Food is distributed to affected communities in the form of fast food in four districts (North Jayaapura, South Jayapura, Abepura and Heram) by the Social Service three times a day," said Kamal.
 
Floods and landslides in Jayapura City caused casualties. The Papuan Police recorded the death toll at seven people and four people injured.

Meanwhile, the survivors were evacuated to the nearest hospitals including DOK II Jayapura Hospital, Provita Jayapura Hospital and Bhayangkara Jayapura Hospital.

"The victim died because of the high rainfall that hit the Jayapura City area," he said.

The area of ​​the most severe landslide disaster was in the North Jayapura area with four landslide points, including Nirwana I Bhayangkara, APO Kali, and Kloofkamp.

For the area of ​​puddles or the worst flooding is in the Abepura district, namely the Organda Housing, Acai River, and Youtefa Market Complex and the southern Jayapura District, namely the residential area of ​​the SMAN 4, PTC Entrop and Hamadi complexes.

Meanwhile, for the Jayapura Regency area, the worst flooding occurred in the Gajah Mada Yahim Sentani BTN Housing, Lukas Enembe Stadium Area.

"For now, the flood inundation is gone, what remains is only material from floods and landslides and is being cleaned by joint TNI-Polri personnel and the local government," said Kamal.
