It is undeniable that Papua and West Papua are one of the dozens of underdeveloped areas in Indonesia. Realizing this, the commitment of the central government to resolve the case has also received direct attention from President Joko Widodo.
The government's actions to support welfare and minimize the gap between Papua and other regions in Indonesia are then linked to the special autonomy program (Otsus). The program is thought to be a solution considering that it is carried out with various bases and methods of local cultural wisdom.
Ali Albert Kabiay, a Papuan youth leader and Chairman of the DPD Pemuda Mandala Trikora, believes that the special autonomy policy is a solution that has been offered by the government to promote the welfare of the people in Papua. According to him, the special autonomy journey has actually been able to bring good changes to Papua.
"Otsus is a government offer that is welcomed by Papuans, this all happened because Papuans are also aware and want welfare to exist. It has also been seen how Papua's progress has been since Otsus was implemented,"
Ali Kabiay, who views Otsus from a positive perspective, also expressed his opinion on a group of people who claimed to reject the pro-people program. He said that these groups were only parties related to the separatist movement in Papua.
"The policies contained in Otsus are one hundred percent supportive of progress for Papua. So that people who reject Otsus are very easy to guess where they come from, surely they are only groups that are pro-separatist,"
Ali Kabiay also considered the rejection of Otsus as a false solution and would only invite misfortune. Because according to him there is nothing more urgent than for the welfare of the Papuan people.
"If it is rejected, then what is the solution? They speak out but never have a proper comparison. Every refusal made is always an unreasonable reason. Don't waste time just on useless actions, the longer it is completed it will only invite misfortune,"
