The Papua Health Office said that 5 regions are ready to implement booster vaccines in the near future.
The five areas are Jayapura City, Merauke Regency, Mimika, Keerom, and Boven Digoel.
"We are still waiting for the Ministry of Health's technical instructions for this," said the Papua Health Office COVID-19 Immunization Coordinator, Doctor Aaron Rumainum, Thursday (6/1/2022).
Aaron said information from the Ministry of Health stated that booster vaccinations were given to districts/cities that had the first dose coverage requirement was 70 percent and the second dose was 60 percent.
By looking at the coverage of the first dose in Papua, Merauke District I vaccination coverage reached 80 percent, the cities of Jayapura, Mimika and Keerom had passed 70 percent and Boven Digoel was close to 70 percent.
“If we look at the second dose, which is already 60 percent, only Merauke. Meanwhile, for the cities of Jayapura, Mimika, Keerom and Boven Digoel, the coverage of the second vaccine is close to 60 percent," he said.
In addition to waiting for technical guidelines, his party is also waiting for the distribution of booster vaccines from the Ministry of Health.
"We don't know yet what kind of booster vaccine will be sent from the Ministry of Health. But the booster is done to strengthen antibodies," he explained.
The local Health Office admits that the national vaccination coverage in Papua is still very low, at 28.55 percent for phase I vaccinations and more than 20 percent for phase II vaccinations.
The highest number of vaccination coverage is in Merauke with more than 80 percent. Then the vaccination coverage of 71-80 percent is in the City of Jayapura, Keerom, Mimika, Jayapura.
Meanwhile, vaccination coverage ranges from 61-70 percent only in Boven Digoel Regency.
Meanwhile, the lowest vaccination coverage was in the districts of Gunung Bintang and Central Mamberamo, which only reached 6-10 percent.
