MERAUKE YOUTH LEADERS CALL IMMEDIATE PROVINCE EXPLANATION

In a series of events, the refusal to form a new province was assessed by one of the Youth Leaders as a deliberate method by the separatist groups to stop the government's efforts to prosper the Papuan people.
Alex Gebze in his statement said that the pemekaran effort would be considered by the separatists as a separate threat to their movement.

"The key is welfare for the people in Papua, if this happens, the separatist movement will disappear, so it is certain that those who are now there are trying to reject it. I say that because the separatist group will definitely be pushed and will no longer get the sympathy of the people,"

However, Gebze added that the state is still asked to be aware of acts of refusal which do not rule out the possibility that it will have a wider impact. He highlighted the efforts of separatist groups who also collaborated with influencers and political elites to create chaos.

"I believe the state has its own way, because we have to realize that this separatist group has many ways and reasons. We even know there is Natalius Pigai there, as a political elite as well as an influencer who is known to often make noise over any problems that occur,"

As the next generation, he explained that the division of the province is one of the new hopes for Papuans to get equality and receive their rights as citizens. Alex also explained that he considered the southern part of Papua to rarely receive attention from the provincial government.

"You could say this southern part of Papua grew and grew on the initiative of its own people. Because here we rarely get attention from people in the province. Of course, with the division, this is a new hope for us, especially Papuans in the south, to get equality. , "

Alex even criticized the performance of a regional head at the provincial level regarding his presence to just look directly at the conditions in his area. Apart from the long distance factor, administrative-related factors also make southern Papua rarely exposed to its potentials to be developed.

"Just count how many times the governor wants to come to Merauke to see firsthand the conditions that are happening. So the expansion is important, to cut bureaucracy, shorten time, and also improve public services so that they are more active and on target,"
