A Brimob member named Bharatu Bachtiar became a victim of a shooting by an armed criminal group (KKB) in the Kiwirok area, Bintang Mountains Regency on Monday (17/1) morning.
The Head of Public Relations of the Papuan Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said that Bharatu Bachtiar was shot when he had gunfire with the Ngalum Kupel KKB group led by Lamek Alipki Taplo.
"The victim Bharatu Bachtiar, had a scratch wound due to being hit by a bullet in the back," said Kamal at the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Monday (17/1/2022).
The gunfight incident began when members of the Nemangkawi Task Force were conducting inspections around the scene at around 06.50 WIB.
The members on duty then received gunfire from the left side of the bush post.
According to Kamal, the situation around the scene when the gunfight took place was foggy. At that time the officers returned fire in the direction of the gunshots.

"Furthermore, the Nemangkawi Action Task Force personnel who were at the bush post returned fire to the shots and a gun battle ensued," explained Kamal.
After the gunfight, the victim who was shot was immediately evacuated to the hospital for further treatment. There were no fatalities in the incident.
"Currently Bharatu Bachtiar has been evacuated to Bhayangkara Jayapura Hospital for further treatment," said Kamal.
Until now, his party is still carrying out surveillance and supervision around the points suspected to be the entrances to the KKB in the vicinity of the location.
