The Minister of PUPR Commits to Complete the Trans Papua Road, which Now Crosses 3,462 KM

The Trans Papua Road construction project that connects Papua with West Papua is still ongoing. Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that his party was committed to completing the construction of the Trans Papua Road.

Of the total length of the Trans Papua road, which is 3,462 kilometers, only 183 kilometers remain which have not been penetrated. This means that the 3,279 kilometers have been penetrated.

"As long as 1,647 kilometers are already in a paved condition, namely 977 kilometers in Papua and 670 kilometers in West Papua," he said in a press statement, Saturday (04/12/2021). Basuki also recently held a meeting with the Regent of the Bintang Mountains Spei Yan Bidana at the PUPR Ministry Office on Friday, (12/3/2021).

On that occasion, the Regent also requested that there be an acceleration of the completion of the road from Keerom Regency to Batom District in the Bintang Mountains Regency. "We will continue to strive for acceleration so that it can immediately penetrate," explained the Minister of PUPR. According to him, President Jokowi has a strong commitment to develop Papua and West Papua.

This can be seen from the number of visits by the President to Papua. Every time he visits, Jokowi always checks every infrastructure built, including roads, housing, and water infrastructure. "Especially border roads, Trans Papua roads, and cross-border posts (PLBN)," said Basuki.

The PUPR Ministry's Budget Implementation List (DIPA) for the 2022 budget year has been decided with a total budget of Rp 100.59 trillion. According to the direction of the Ministry of Finance, 5 percent of the total budget must be saved to anticipate the Covid-19 pandemic. "If the pandemic can be finished in the first half of 2022, then we can use the savings to increase infrastructure development," concluded Basuki.
