PLN electrifies 12 villages in 2 Districts of Waropen Regency, Papua



PT PLN (Persero) inaugurated the use of electricity in 12 villages in Wapoga and Inggerus Districts, Waropen Regency, as a commitment to electrify the Papua and West Papua regions.

General Manager of PLN Main Unit for Papua and West Papua Region (UIWP2B) Abdul Farid in a press release to Antara in Jayapura, Monday, said he was relieved to be able to electrify the two districts thanks to excellent communication support with the local government.

“This is a gift from God by making the best use of existing electricity to improve the quality of life. Hopefully this electricity can provide many benefits to the people of Wapoga and England," he said.

According to Farid, the process of electrifying 12 villages in Waropen began in 2017 with the construction of a medium voltage network (JTM) of 56 kms and a low voltage network (JTR) of 37.51 kms.

"It is hoped that this good synergy can continue to be established and not only here, hopefully soon we can electrify other villages in Waropen Regency that do not have electricity," he said.

Wapoga and Inggerus districts are two of the 12 districts in Waropen Regency which are located about 75 km from Waren (the capital of Waropen). Currently, the trip to the area can be reached in two hours by speedboat.

"The twelve villages are Wapoga, Pirare, Awera, Syewa Merare, Kamarisano, Wareri, Dokis, Somiangga, Toire, Harapan Jaya, Awaso, and Firo villages, where the plan is that the villages will be electrified for 12 hours every day," he said. Farid.

For the electrification of the twelve villages, PLN has also prepared two village electricity sources (Lisdes), namely the Wapoga Basecamp and Wapoga Kampung systems, with a generating power of 2×200 kW and 1×100 kW respectively and the potential customers for the two systems reach 1,500. customer.

Meanwhile, Waropen Regent Yermias Bisay reminded the entire community to jointly maintain the electricity facilities that have been built because it is not only the responsibility of PLN, but also the entire community in the 12 villages.

"Regarding electricity, I don't want to hear that there is a barrier, what's wrong, shouldn't be in this village, PLN officers and facilities here, don't try to disturb them, don't pull cables or steal electricity, it's a crime, no. there may be planting trees near the network, for village heads, tribal chiefs, take good care of this facility," he said.
