Mimika Regency, Papua Province through PT Bartuh Langgeng Abadi, owned by one of the entrepreneurs in Timika, made the first export of frozen shrimp to Japan with a total of 9.8 tons through Pomako Port, East Mimika District.
President Director of PT Bartuh Langgeng Abadi Sulaksono Soemitro said the shrimp exported to Japan, namely tiger shrimp weighing 2 tons and the rest banana shrimp, were caught by local fishermen and took about one month to travel by ship.
"This is our first export to Japan. In Japan there are already three buyers, namely from Tokyo and from Fukuoka. These export shrimp are caught by fishermen around the Pomako Port area," explained Sulaksono on the sidelines of the first shrimp export activity to Japan which took place at Pomako Harbor Pier, Wednesday.
To carry out the first export, PT Bartuh Langgeng Abadi prepared for one month.
"This export of shrimp has met the standard they asked for. We have also agreed to arrange for the next shipment in January 2022 with the same amount as this initial export, as well as the following months," said the son of entrepreneur Soemitro, owner of the Timika Group Serayu business.
PT Bartuh Langgeng Abadi has fish management facilities around the Pomako Port area with a production capacity of 2.4 tons per day or 70 tons per month.
However, currently the shrimp production is only about 1 ton, so to increase production capacity, PT Bartuh Langgeng Abadi will also start a shrimp catching business for export purposes.
"Our current problem is that the supply from fishing fishermen is still small because on average they use vessels with sizes below 5 gross tones. In the future, we plan to expand into the fishing sector, especially shrimp to increase production. times exporting shrimp to Japan," said Sulaksono.
According to him, the exported shrimp were purchased from local fishermen at a price of IDR 130 thousand per kilogram. The price of the shrimp when purchased by Japanese entrepreneurs ranged from Rp. 200 thousand per kilogram to Rp. 300 thousand per kilogram.
For the shrimp shipments to Japan, PT Bartuh Langgeng Abadi must pay shipping costs (container shipping costs) via PT SPIL ships of 7,400 US dollars.
Representing the Mimika Regency Government, Assistant III of the Mimika Regional Secretariat Hendriete Tandiyono praised PT Bartuh Langgeng Abadi's courage to export marine and fishery products directly from Mimika through the Pomako Port gate.
Hendriete admitted that the frozen shrimp commodity is the leading export product of the Mimika Regency fishery in addition to mangrove crabs and snapper which have also penetrated foreign markets such as Malaysia and Singapore.
