The biggest sporting event in Indonesia, the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021 turned out to be not only a competition for athletes, the PON event also turned out to be a field of sustenance for some people who previously did not have a job.
One of them is Kadi. The man who was previously unemployed now has an income of IDR 300,000 per day because he is one of the bus drivers operating during the PON.
Since September 1, Kadi has officially become the bus driver for the contingents from each province to every match venue and vice versa.
Kadi admitted that he had worked for a company. Then he resigned, and is now joining a number of other drivers for the PON Papua event, after being unemployed for some time.
"I used to be unemployed after leaving the company. However, when I heard there was a job vacancy for a bus driver at PON XX, I tried it. Then I was accepted, I was very happy," he said as quoted from the official website of PON XX Papua 2021.
He told me that every day he started work at 4 in the morning serving contingents to the venue until they arrived at the Entrop terminal, South Jayapura District, Jayapura City, around 10 pm.
Even though he started the journey from home in the APO (American Post Office) area, North Jayapura District, by riding a motorbike to Entrop, he had to get up at 3 in the morning. Even though he worked late at night, he was grateful for the opportunity to provide the best service for PON participants.
The income is pretty good. From that amount of honor, he can support his wife and children and save money
"Anyway, I'm happy to be a Papuan PON bus driver, I can earn and increase my family's income," he said.
