Chairman of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Papua Jaya Kusuma hopes that the condition of all Papuan athletes until the competition at Peparnas XVI will be in a fit condition.
"We hope that all of our athletes are fit until the match so that they can make achievements in the XVI Peparnas," he said in Jayapura, Wednesday (27/10).
He said, currently the athletes are ready to compete to defend Papua in the national event for athletes with disabilities.
Jaya Kususma explained, NPC Papua prepared as many as 280 athletes. They participated in 12 sports that were competed in the biggest event for athletes with disabilities.
"All athletes are already in Papua and are ready to compete in 12 sports later," said Kusuma.
Although acting as the host of Peparnas XVI, Kusuma admitted that he did not target the overall winner, but improved his ranking, which in the previous edition in West Java, Papua was ranked 5th.
"I don't make big promises, but we want to improve our position, which previously we were in fifth place, now we are trying to get into the top three, but it is possible for us to win the overall champion, the point is we want to try," he said.
Peparnas XVI Papua, will compete in 12 sports which will be held in two clusters, namely Jayapura Regency and City.
Each cluster organizes six sports where Jayapura Regency will compete in heavy lifting which will take place at Suni Garden Lake Hotel and Resort, Sentani and five other sports will be held in the Lukas Enembe Stadium area, namely athletics, swimming, table tennis, archery and shooting.
Meanwhile, six sports were competed in Jayapura City, namely Badminton at the Cenderawsih Sports Center, Chess at the Sahid hotel, Boccia at the Uncen Auditorium, Tennis Court at the Sian Soor venue at the Jayapura mayor's office, Judo for the Blind at Trikora Sports Center and CP Football at the Mahacandra Stadium, Cenderawasih University.
