Rain of Criticism of KKB's Violent Actions to Health Workers




A number of health workers (nakes) in Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua, were attacked by an armed criminal group (KKB). The KKB's heinous action which resulted in the death of a female health worker was criticized by a number of parties.

Komnas HAM expressed deep condolences for the victims of health workers who experienced persecution, harassment, and even murder. A nurse named Gabriela Meilan (22) died in the incident.

"We are deeply saddened by the events in Kiwirok," said Komnas HAM External Deputy Chairman Amiruddin Al-Rahab, Saturday (18/9/2021).

The attack on health workers took place in Kiwirok District, Bintang Mountains, Monday (13/9), at least five health workers were injured. Komnas HAM also condemned the action and asked law enforcement officials to take action against the perpetrators.

"The actions of the people called KKB are heinous crimes and violate the law in Indonesia. Therefore, the legal apparatus is 100 percent authorized to take action against them," he added.

The Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) also condemned the KKB violence in Papua which resulted in the death of a female health worker. PGI urges the authorities to take firm action against the perpetrators.

"The Fellowship of Churches in Indonesia strongly condemns the violent incident in the Kiwirok District, Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua, which was carried out by an armed criminal group on September 13, 2021, by burning the puskesmas and taking hostages and torturing several female health workers at the Kiwirok Health Center," he said.
