Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that the preparation for the National Sports Week (PON) and the National Paralympic Week (Papernas) in Papua had reached 99 percent.
According to him, a number of athletes are scheduled to start arriving in Papua on September 20, 2021.
"Earlier (yesterday) just invited the Menpora, Chairman of KONI, TNI Headquarters, Polri, BIN, BSSN, including the EO, they presented that everything was ready," said Mahfud, quoted from a written statement, Saturday (4/9/2021).
Mahfud also ensured that in general the political and security conditions in Papua ahead of the PON and Papernas were good.
Regarding the attack case at the Kisor Posramil, Aifat, Maybarat Regency, West Papua, Mahfud said that it was a concern in terms of security. However, he made sure not to affect the plans that had been set in the security and security activities prepared for PON and Papernas.
Mahfud added, the implementation of PON is still carried out by observing the implementation of strict health protocols.
"Because the situation is still in a pandemic, if necessary, there will be a health protocol that will be enforced in all venues where the competition is held, so that it is understood and followed," he said.
The former chairman of the Constitutional Court also did not prevent people from watching PON or Papernas, but there were still rules that had to be followed.
"But there are limitations, limits regarding the amount, regarding distance, antigen, or PCR and so on have been regulated and prepared as well as possible," he said.
