Community Leaders Support PON Papua




Ahead of 100 days of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) support came from Papuan leaders so that the implementation of this grand national sport activity could run smoothly and successfully on Earth of Cendrawasih Papua.

"The community must be enthusiastic about supporting the implementation of PON 2021 in Papua. PON also supports development. Therefore, do not be influenced by things that are detrimental and hinder the implementation of PON XX 2021 in Papua," said Marta in a release, Thursday (24/6).

Separately, Jayapura religious leader, Jhon Baransano, appealed to the public to participate in the success of PON XX Papua. John also said that the presence of athletes from all over Indonesia is a source of pride for the Papuan people, so they must be welcomed.

"Because the presence of athletes and officials from 34 provinces in Papua is a matter of pride. Let's with a kind and clean heart, we welcome the activities of PON XX, as a good host. Let's leave all differences behind, let's see that this event has a positive impact and gives values ​​to good human relations, we can get to know all the ethnic groups that exist," said Jhon.

On a separate occasion, Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Marciano Norman emphasized that Papua was ready to hold the XX National Sports Week (PON).

"We have received reports that the organizing committee is very ready to face the four-yearly national sporting event. We also agreed to make this PON Papua a revival of the Indonesian people from the Covid-19 pandemic," Marciano said in a press release from the Central KONI.

Two Papuan animals, Kangpho and Drawa, are the mascots of the XX PON which will be held in Papua in 2020. Kangpho or tree kangaroo, which has been popular as a typical Australian animal, is in fact in Papua.

Interestingly, Kangpho is a type of tree kangaroo and one of them that is very famous is the golden coat tree kangaroo or its Latin name is Dendrolagus Pulcherrimus.

Drawa in scientific language called Paradisaea Raggiana is a type of medium-sized songbird with a length of 34 cm. Drawa is an adult male bird that has decorations dominated by red, orange and mixed colors of red and orange on the side of the abdomen.

While the chest hair is dark brown. Most uniquely, on Drawa's tail there are two long black ropes.

Not only that, the tagline Torang Bisa (We can) was also launched along with the PON XX mascot. #torangbisa means a typical Papuan encouragement to inflame the spirit of the athletes who will compete in XX PON.
