Papua's Special Autonomy (Otsus) has been going on for 20 years and has become part of the life of the Papuan people. Otsus has proven to have helped a lot in the lives of people in Papua. Judging from the superiority of Otsus which is far more dominant than its failure, it is very feasible if this Special Autonomy is continued to achieve the shortcomings during the previous implementation of Otsus.
Helin Hioati, Secretary of Maruni Village, said that the Special Autonomy program is very profitable and provides many benefits for Maruni Village residents. "Otsus really helps the economy of the villagers, especially in the fields of Education, Health and Infrastructure." Helin explained.
According to him, the receipt of the Special Autonomy funds from year to year has increased from Rp. 100 million/year until now Rp. 225 million/year. "We distribute everything to all residents to open small businesses and buy daily necessities," said Helin.
The rejection from the community regarding the sustainability of Otsus, continued Helin, was due to the lack of socialization from the district to the villages so that there was a stigma from the community that the Otsus program had failed.
If Otsus is to be continued in the future, Helin asked the government to establish an Elementary School (SD) in Maruni Village because so far children have been studying long distances, thus hampering their learning activities.
As village officials, Helin invites residents to support the government's plan to continue Otsus in Papua, because with this Special Autonomy, Papuans can enjoy development and lead a prosperous life.
