Multimodal Sea Highway Now Reaches the Central Highlands of Papua

Currently, marine toll ships have reached the central highlands of Papua by synergizing multimodal operations in Nduga Regency. Head of the Jayapura Class II Port Authority and Port Authority Office (KSOP Class II Jayapura) Taher Laitupa said this would increase related service businesses at ports in the marine highway ecosystem.

"This makes Nduga Regency the southern entrance for the Central Mountains region (Lapago)," said Taher.

He said that the implementation of the sea highway in 2021 will continue to develop by combining main elements such as ships, route networks and ports. Including, supporting elements such as optimization of the passage of rivers and lakes in coastal and mountainous areas.

For this reason, Taher ensured that the Jayapura KSOP would continue to monitor and evaluate the operation of the sea highway on Route T-26. The route has served several isolated areas in Papua Province such as Atsy Agats Harbor, Sawaerma, Mumugu and Boundary Batu, Nduga Regency.

"From the regional characteristics of the central mountains, one of the focuses of the implementation of the Sea Highway is a scheduled and regular logistic distribution service in Nduga Regency," Taher explained.

He said, Nduga is a district directly adjacent to several areas in the central mountains such as Jayawijaya Regency, Lanny Jaya Regency, Puncak Regency and Tolikara Regency. Currently, Nduga Regency needs fast action to carry out an equitable and just development.

"With a very high level of community demand, of course, a well and smoothly scheduled and regular logistic supply is needed with the use of the Rede ship which can reach river waters in the central mountainous region. This demands that in the near future the implementation of the Sea Highway must be implemented," he said. Taher.

Meanwhile, Kasie Lala and Port Business Willem Thobias Fofid said that currently people really need the presence of the state in the form of real development. Especially in the fields of education, health, people's economy, and basic infrastructure.

Willem said Nduga residents also admitted that they really needed logistics distribution services and port and airport transportation as well as multimodal connectivity. "Including road access that can connect the Mumugu One-Kenyam, Kenyam-Mbua, Kenyam-Iniye, and Kenyem-Gearek routes, including the access that connects Nduga-Yahukimo," said Willem.
