Development in Papua is Increasingly Rapid

Development in Papua grew rapidly during the administration of President Joko Widodo. This can be seen from the development of infrastructure, access to education and an increasingly massive economy. Director of the Institute for Social Change (IPSOS), Dr Yusdi Usman, emphasized that this progress could already be felt by the community.

"What the reform government is doing, especially Pak Jokowi, in my opinion, infrastructure, education and the economy are much bigger, in terms of volume, they have a bigger impact," Yusdi told Mata Indonesia News, Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Even so, Yusdi still encouraged the government to continue to increase efforts for dialogue space with indigenous Papuans. The goal is that the community can feel the benefits of the development being carried out more.

"The only challenge is whether psychologically or sociologically, the community doesn't feel like the presence of this development, they are part of Indonesia, this is a challenge," said Yusdi.

Military and intelligence observers, Susaningtyas NH Kertopati, have also made a similar statement. He emphasized that the Papuan people really need a social and cultural approach.

"The settlement with dialogue is better because it does not cause injuries. The socio-cultural approach is also important, not just a military, economic, security approach, ”said Nuning.

He also reminded Papua to always be considered special so that the people felt that they were part of Indonesia. So, the Papuan people can feel the same as the nation's children like the others.
