Sea Highway Boosts Economy in Papua

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has revealed that logistics distribution has increased in eastern Indonesia, particularly the southern trade route for Papua. This phenomenon cannot be separated from the effect of the implementation of the Sea Highway in the region.

This can be seen from the supply-demand needs in regency areas which are transit ports for KM ships. Nusantara 2 logistics on Route T-19 which continues to increase sharply.

"On the 3rd Voyage (trip), 14 containers of superior commodity chips from the Jayapura Regency area from Depapre Port arrived in Merauke due to the high demand for physical infrastructure development in the area," said Director of Traffic and Sea Transportation, Capt. Antoni Arif Priadi, in his statement, Friday (2/4/2021). Next on the 4th Voyage on March 30, 2021, KM. Logistik Nusantara 2 carried 42 cargo containers leaving.

"Even today, the implementation of the Sea Toll Road business process has been equipped with the latest technology applications that are very easy to access by the public, namely the SITOLAUT application," he added.

According to the Head of the Merauke Regency Transportation Service, Fransiskus Anggawen, Route T-19 (Merauke - Kokas - Sorong - Korido - Depapre - Sorong - Merauke) is clear evidence that the National Strategic Marine Toll Road Program in Indonesia is present, especially in the 3TP area.

In fact, the new acceleration, namely the addition of a stopover port or deviation to Pomako, is a very good thing in terms of time management during logistics distribution, which hopefully can also reduce high logistics costs in the Papua Mountains region.
