General Secretary of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Papua Kenius Kogoya revealed that the contingent of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) will be formed no later than July 2021.
"The PON Papua contingent was formed in July, so all the tasks of the KONI and Puslatprov will be handed over to the head of the contingent," Kenius was quoted as saying on the PB PON Papua website, Wednesday.
According to him, if the contingent has been formed, all athletes who are currently undergoing training camp on the island of Java will be drawn back to Jayapura.
Furthermore, according to the program, athletes will be sent directly to the XX PON organizing cluster based on the sports competition number.
"The timing of the PON is getting closer, so that in July all athletes have been practicing at each venue, as well as adjusting to the race venue in the match organizer cluster," said Kenius.
With the formation of the PON Papua contingent, he continued, there would be no more reserve athletes and others. All are core athletes who will strengthen Papua Province at this four-year national sports event.
He also hopes that the Papua Provincial government, through the Sports and Youth Service (Disorda) and the PON Grand Committee (PB), can make it easier for the host athletes to immediately train at each venue whose construction has been 100 percent completed.
"We all work for Papua's victory in the PON, I ask for the support of PB PON and Disorda to both support Papuan athletes to train at the venue, don't confuse our athletes with other contingents," said Kenius.
The XX Papua PON will take place from 2-15 October 2021 in four organizing clusters, including Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika and Merauke Regency, by competing 37 sports, 679 matches, 56 disciplines and 6,442 athletes from 34 Provinces throughout Indonesia.
