Handover of the position of Chairperson of PBVSI Papua is handed over from old officials to new officials, in line with the replacement of the Papua Police Chief.
The handover ceremony took place at Polda Papua, Tuesday (9/3/2021), from Komjen Pol Drs. Paulus Waterpauw to Inspector General Pol. Mathius D Fakhiri, attended by the General Secretary of Koni Papua, Kenius Kogoya and other PBVSI administrators.
Komjen Pol Drs. Paulus Waterpauw said his gratitude to all PBVSI and KONI Papua administrators who have supported the volleyball athletes training camp during the preparation for PON XX. "I really hope that PBVSI will continue to be enthusiastic in preparing Papuan athletes who will appear in the XX Papua PON," he said.
Waterpauw said, volleyball is one of the sports that has priority and must contribute a gold medal to the Papuan contingent. "Currently, the PON team is undergoing TC in Bali, East Java and West Java. We have to show that we can get the XX PON gold medal. we have to prove it, "he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of PBVSI - Mathius D. Fakhiri, admitted that after the handover of this position, he would immediately close ranks to gather all the management. "We will take quick steps to prepare the PON volleyball athletes. Hopefully we can get two gold medals according to the target. We are also grateful that volleyball has received special attention from the Papua National Sports Committee (KONI). So it really helps us to send athletes to join training centers (TC) outside Papua, "he said.
He continued, from the information of the management, all volleyball athletes will be collected in Sentul, West Java, to take part in the TC centrally. As Chairman of PBVSI as well as Kapolda Papua, of course in the near future, there will be a sounding to the PON organizers to discuss the preparatory process that has been carried out so far.
I hope that all Papuan people also support this PON. So that the Governor's Top Five PON XX finish target can be realized.
A similar sentiment was conveyed by the General Secretary of the KONI Papua, Kenius Kogoya, that PON is whether it is the spirit of this country or not. "100 years will not be repeated, it proves that Papua can also, with the various shortcomings that exist we must be ready to host the XX PON 2021," he said.
According to Kenius, volleyball is one of the priority sports for KONI Papua and we hope to win two gold medals. "The Governor, as the head of KONI Papua, is targeting us to finish in the top five. For that we as our hosts prepare all the best. we have to come out to be the best. Therefore we have to show the world and Indonesia that Papua can also excel. We will always support TC athletes and athletes should not complain about anything, we will serve as well as possible, "he said.
