Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) of West Papua Province Paskalis All asked citizens not to be afraid to go to the polling stations (TPS) in the 2020 simultaneous regional elections held on December 9. Paskalis guaranteed that all stages of the elections would be carried out by implementing strict health protocols.
"We will carry out all stages of regional elections this year with health protocols. This is to provide a sense of comfort for the community so they do not hesitate to go to polling stations," said Paskalis.
Currently, he said, the recruitment of members of the polling committee (KPPS) is ongoing. After being elected, KPPS members will undergo technical guidance, particularly on the application of health protocols during voting.
The KPU in the nine regions that hold regional elections in West Papua also continues to socialize the voting and counting process.
"Because there are provisions for implementing health protocols, it must be socialized and simulated, so that officers understand including the community," he said. In the socialization and simulation, his party demonstrated a voter visiting the TPS.
All health protocols are implemented before potential voters enter the polling stations, such as wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance. The health protocol continues when voters are in the polling station until it is finished.
"Wearing a clear mask, then wash hands, apply distance to reduce the potential for crowds," he said.
Simultaneous regional elections in West Papua will be held in nine regions, namely Manokwari, South Manokwari, Arfak Mountains, Wondama Bay, Bintuni Bay, Fakfak, Kaimana, South Sorong, and Raja Ampat.
Based on data from the West Papua Covid-19 Task Force, of the nine regions, Manokwari has the highest number of cases of transmission. Meanwhile, the Arfak Mountains have yet to have positive case findings.
