The existence of reading houses and traditional schools is a learning tool to increase children's creativity. Jayapura Regency Government continues to encourage the development of collaborative non-formal learning facilities to the villages.
"In addition to formal education, children are guided to develop creativity through learning in reading houses, traditional schools, and cultural arts centers. The learning is expected to produce quality human resources in the future, "said Regent Mathius Awoitauw, Thursday (7/22/2020).
Awoitauw's statement relates to National Children's Day which is celebrated every July 23. He claimed the local government gave full attention to the rights of children, especially in the last five years.
"Jayapura Regency has been pushed (launched) to become a child-friendly district five years ago. The realization of a child-friendly district starts from the village so it must be supported by residents and village government, "said Awoitauw, after the 47th anniversary of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI), in Doyo Baru Village, Waibu.
He continued collaboration in building child-friendly facilities, among them realized through a reading house in Kampung Yoboi, and a traditional school in Kampong Hobong. The construction and management of the facility involved a number of non-governmental organizations.
However, according to him, these efforts would not be effective without the support of the family. "Most of the children's time is spent with family. Therefore, family is the key to children's success. "
Yoboi Reading House Owner Henny Felle Tokoro admitted the local government was very concerned about developing their reading house. Activities of the children also went relatively normal during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We are studying cubits, reading and writing and spiritual guidance. We hope that this attention (from the Jayapura Regency Government) continues to run in the interests of the children, "Tokoro said.
