The Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic, Yapsi District residents in Jayapura Regency Become Enthusiastic in Gardening |
Yapsi District Head Steven Ohe said that the spread of Covid-19 had not only had a negative impact on society, but a small portion also had a positive impact. As is the case in most of the villages in the Yapsi District. Where people begin to change lifestyles with a focus on working on agricultural land and gardening.
"The Covid-19 pandemic is extraordinary, changing the mindset from being lazy, just talking about politics but now all are competing to open the garden land. This is a very extraordinary thing," Steven Ohe told reporters at Sentani, Monday (6/22/2020).
According to him, this is in line with the food security program that has been launched by the Jayapura Regent, Mathius Awoitauw some time ago. At present most of the people in the villages in the district have returned to cultivate agricultural land for farming.
"If we look at the side of the road in that area, everyone has started to open a garden, Covid-19 turned out to have a positive side, arousing public awareness to return to work on the garden," he said.
For this reason, he hopes that related agencies can provide support and support to the implementation of agricultural activities that have begun to be carried out by the community at the village level. In addition to assistance there needs to be concrete actions such as providing seeds and also having to think about marketing of local commodities that are currently being developed by the community.
"Indeed, for food security, I think it is very sufficient when we only rely on local food. But, from the economic side, it must also be considered that the local food products are vegetables and tubers. The government needs to think about the market so that there is no buildup or waste because all this time has come down to work on the land, "he concluded.
