Jayapura Regency Government Continues to Develop Cocoa Plants |
The Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab), Papua Province is developing a cocoa plant to restore the glory of the cocoa commodity in the region.
Head of the Jayapura Regency's plantation and animal husbandry service Dodi Samyana in Sentani said that in addition to the food security program that is being promoted, the Jayapura Regency Government is temporarily trying to restore the cocoa glory in the region as before.
"We are starting to develop cocoa, hope we can revive the glory of cocoa, we have started working," said Dodi Samyana.
He said, now there are several areas in the district that have started to develop cocoa plants. The development of cocoa will be carried out in stages in areas that have the potential to produce cocoa.
Related to that, he said, on Sunday, May 17, 2020, he and the Regent of Jayapura, had handed over 5,000 seedlings of cacao plants to develop cacao plants in the Yokiwa village area.
He said 5,000 of these cacao seedlings were used for replanting or replacing cocoa plants that had been damaged by pest attacks which had been a problem for cocoa farmers in Jayapura Regency.
"This is for the replanting program of the cacao plant which was previously damaged by the pest," he said.
He mentioned, the replanting program was carried out in stages according to the availability of land in each cocoa farmer in Yokiwa Village.
Dodi added, in order to support the replanting program, his party also handed over a number of small agricultural tools in the form of machetes, shovels and several other equipment that would be used by farmers when starting their work.
"We are also preparing the planting costs because we are directing all of them labor-intensive," he said.
