The PON Athlete Regional Training Center Has Started In Riau Islands

Amri as Deputy Secretary of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of the Riau Islands Province said, in the Riau Islands Province there were 14 sports that qualify for the upcoming Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2020.

These 14 sports are the result of the holding of the 2019 Pre PON, and the 2019 Sumatra Region Sports Week, in Bengkulu, last year. The 14 sports included screens, boxing, sepaktakraw, billiards, chess, swimming, aeromodelling, fighting, wushu, muaythai, diving, shooting, pencaksilat, and futsal.

"Well, the athletes from 14 sports have been undergoing regional training or provincial training (Pelatprov), since the beginning of March. But, due to an emergency corona outbreak condition, the athletes have not yet undergone TC or centralized training. They practice, in each Pengprov first, "explained Amri, Wednesday (1/4) yesterday.

In undergoing the training period in each of these Pengprov, Amri said, KONI Kepri continued to monitor, and always coordinate with each Pengprov sport. Technically, athletes exercise in limited conditions. That is, do not interact with outside communities. Then, the training ground tends to be in a particular room.

"PON is scheduled from 20 October to 2 November 2020, in Papua. We hope this agenda is not postponed. With hope, the corona pandemic in Indonesia will soon disappear, "hoped Amri.

Previously, Usep Rahmat, Chairperson of KONI Kepri, said that in addition to the 14 sports that passed PON 2020, the Riau Islands Province also hoped that four other sports would be held outside Papua. The other four sports are dance sports, golf, woodball and water skiing. At present, the central board of each of the four sports, strives to remain contested outside Papua.

"If these four become, we from the Riau Islands already have capital. The 18 sports are relied upon to be able to donate medals to the Riau Islands, and I am optimistic about that, "Usep said.

To deal with PON 2020 in Papua, Usep said, KONI Kepri had prepared steps. Starting from the determination of the Chairman of the PON 2020 Task Force Kepri (Maifrizon) to the agenda of the concentration of training runs in each sport, up to the full TC.
