Police Ensure the Safety of 1,572 Refugees

As many as 1. 572 people have been evacuated from various villages in Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, Papua Province since the shooting carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).

Thousands of residents were evacuated to Timika, the capital of Mimika Regency since Friday (6/3) and it is likely that the numbers will increase.

Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw after meeting refugees from Tembagapura in Timika, Monday morning confirmed that the security forces would be responsible for the safety and security of the community.

"We will take strict action against KKB, which often disturbs the peace and comfort of the community," he said.

Until now thousands of residents from various villages in Tembagapura who sought refuge in Timika will live in the homes of their relatives

"We ask permission and prayers from all the people because members will face the group. That is why we as security forces will deal with the KKB so as not to disturb the community," he said.

The security forces will take firm, measured measures because the group uses firearms, said the Papua Police Chief, Paulus Waterpauw.
