The Manokwari shooting victim dies, the police are still hunting for the perpetrator

Muhammad Ralas (50), a shooting victim in Mandopi Village, Manokwari Regency, West Papua, died at the Indonesian Navy Hospital.

The victim, who served as the Imam of the Al-Hijrah Mosque in the Borobudur Complex, Manokwari, died on Friday (25/11/2022) at around 01.00 WIT.

"He died last night at 01.00 WIT," said Nurmala (43), the victim's wife when met at her house, Friday.

The victim was then buried at the Pasir Putih Manokwari Public Cemetery after Friday prayers.

According to Nurmala, her husband at the time of the incident found three residents at the location.

"There are three people with the characteristics that you told me, that one person is tall, one is rather medium while the other is a woman," he said.

She said her husband was shot from the right side. The bullet lodged in the stomach close to the intestines.

"Father was standing when he was shot, when he stood up the three perpetrators then ran away," he explained.

After being shot, the victim still managed to ride his motorbike from the scene of the incident to his house, which is about 7 kilometers away.

"Father returned home on his motorcycle, he entered the house in a bent state. Then, I asked why while seeing his face pale, then he (the victim) pointed to his stomach while saying he was shot. When I undressed, I saw a gunshot wound," he said.

Nurmala said the victim was not looking for firewood at the scene. Nurmala said her husband was a wood sensor operator in the Mandopi forest area. He worked at that location for 10 years.

"For 10 years, you have worked as an operator and according to you, the perpetrators who shot him were new residents who were strangers to him. Previously, I warned you about the shooting incidents in Maybrat and Bintuni so that you were more careful," he said.

Nurmala then asked her son who wanted to picket as a member of the TNI to accompany the victim to the Navy Hospital.

Report to the police

After taking the victim to the TNI AL Hospital, Nurmala then took the initiative to head to the Manokwari Police Office at around 8.00 WIT on Wednesday (23/11/2022). Arriving at the Manokwari Police SPKT, Nurmala did not find any police officers in the room.

"When I was about to return from the room, I heard the sound of chairs and it turned out that a police officer had just woken up," said Nurmala.

Instead of serving, the police asked Nurmala to come back at 9.00 WIT.

"He asked me to come back at 9.00 WIT. I rushed out and thought, instead of coming back, it would be better for me to go take care of my husband at the hospital," she said.

On the way to the hospital, it occurred to Nirmala to try to make a report at the Sanggeng Police, Manokwari City.

"When I was at the Polsek, my report was received by a picket police officer," he said.

Police have yet to find the perpetrator

The Head of the Manokwari Police, AKBP Parisian Herman Gultom, said that his party was still conducting an in-depth investigation regarding the shooting.

"Regarding the shooting, not yet, it is still being disclosed. All members are still on the ground," he said when confirmed by reporters, Friday.

The police chief confirmed that the victim had died.

"The victim died (25/11/2022) at one o'clock," he said.
