The Papuan provincial government says there needs to be a synergy for the welfare of farmers

The Papuan Provincial Government (Pemprov) through the local Agriculture and Food Service stated that there is a need for synergy between relevant agencies to improve the welfare of farmers so that the price index paid by farmers remains stable in Cenderawasih Earth.

The Head of the Agriculture and Food Service of the Papua Province, Semuel Siriwa, told Antara in Jayapura, Wednesday, that the decline in the farmer's exchange rate must be a concern for all parties so that the exchange rate of Papuan farmers is stable or under control.

"The decline in the farmer's exchange rate was felt in the field of food crop commodities, this was due to the rising prices of production facilities," he said.

According to Siriwa, there are several steps to strengthen the resilience of farmers, such as the provision of subsidized fertilizers, then there must also be intervention in prices from the relevant agencies if they soar.

"With good cooperation, between agencies, the exchange rate of Papuan farmers will return to stability," he said.

Previously, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Papua Province, Adriana Helena Carolina, stated that the local farmer's exchange rate (NTP) was 99.08, down 0.38 percent in September 2022 compared to the previous month.

"The change in index numbers that occurred was that the food crops sub-sector fell 0.33 percent, then the horticulture sub-sector fell 0.78 percent, and the people's plantation sub-sector fell 0.62 percent," he said.

He explained that the decrease in FTT was due to the 0.56 percent change in the price index received by farmers, which was slower than the 0.95 percent increase in the price index paid by farmers.
