The Regional Research and Development Agency (Balitbangda) in collaboration with Eco Nusa Manokwari held a training for Young Papuan Scientists 2022 for three days, 1-3 September at the Mansinam Beach Hall.
The activity was attended by 25 Papuan Young Scientists from various universities in Papua and West Papua.
Secretary of the Regional Research and Development Agency (Balitbangda) of West Papua Province, Silvya Makabori hopes that young scientists can produce research that supports development in Papua, especially as the last bastion in facing the climate crisis.
"Of course, Balitbangda West Papua cannot work alone, so we collaborated with Eco Nusa West Papua to carry out this training activity by becoming a Young Scientist from students in Papua and West Papua," he said after closing the activity, Saturday (3/09/2022).
Young scientists in Papua and West Papua are also asked to assist local governments in both provinces and districts/cities in making policies so that they run properly.
Based on the results of appropriate research in the field of natural and social resources.
"Because maybe in the past there were policies that were taken suddenly and without research, so there were policies that were later changed because they got improvements," he said.
"For this reason, we hope that research from scientists can be a recommendation before any regional policies are issued," he said.
He continued, the Training of Young Papuan Scientists was carried out as a form of attention from the West Papua Provincial Government to the wise management of natural resources.
"Management of natural resources based on research results is expected to have a positive impact on the community both in terms of resources and the economy," he said.
In the same place, Head of Eco Nusa Manokwari Office Novi Hematang said this was the fourth training.
To provide opportunities for Young Scientists at the university to develop themselves in conservative research.
Eco Nusa will accompany the scientists who received training from September 1-3 2022 until the end of December 2022.
The scientists who receive the training will carry out research according to their respective fields, the results of which will be presented next December.
According to him, there are still many research results on Papua produced by foreign researchers and Indonesian researchers who are not from Papua.
This is what drives his party and the Balitbangda West Papua to facilitate young scientists to receive training so that they can develop and be interested in the world of research.
"We hope they can continue to research, innovate research and produce research that can be used by local governments before issuing policies," he hoped.
The plan is that young scientists will research a number of things in Papua related to natural resources, indigenous peoples.
And local wisdom and biodiversity from aquatic animals to poultry.
