As a form of commitment to lighting up the country, PLN has managed to electrify seven villages in the Kokas District, Fakfak Regency, West Papua for 24 hours a day. One of the seven villages has just been electrified by PLN, while the other six villages have had their hours of operation increased.
In a press release to Antara in Jayapura, earlier Thursday, the six villages, namely Kampung Baru, Kampung Masina, Sekar Village, Sisir Village, Sosar Village, and Pangwadar Village have been enjoying electricity for twelve hours every day since 1985. On the other hand, Kampung Batufiafas has just experienced PLN's electricity services at this time.
One of the community leaders of the Kokas District, Hamdani, said that wanting to enjoy electricity facilities as it is today has always been his dream. "Since childhood, it has been my dream to be able to enjoy electricity for 24 hours, at least now my grandson can enjoy it for the future," he said.
With the existing limitations, previously in one day the community had to spend Rp100 thousand to turn on the lighting using a generator for four hours. Hamdani is grateful that currently PLN electricity is available 24 hours a day in his village. "Thanks to PLN and the Regional Government for making it happen. Our activities have been helped and made easier," he added.
The presence of electricity is certainly very useful and makes it easier for people to carry out various activities. This is because this can ease the work of the community, most of whom make a living as fishermen. In the future, various steps will be taken by the community, one of which is by building cold storage to store marine catches (fish, lobster and crab) which have the potential to increase people's income.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Fakfak, Untung Tamsil, said that proper lighting for the community was the result of regular synergy and coordination efforts carried out by the Regional Government and PLN. According to him, one of the local government programs in the form of "Fakfak Bright" is in line with PLN's efforts to electrify all Indonesians without exception, one of which is through the "Papua Bright" program. "We give the highest appreciation for the hard work of PLN which is able to provide electricity. With the inclusion of 24-hour electricity, of course, we as the Regional Government will encourage the improvement of other public facilities, one of which is on the telecommunications side which also has many impacts. The local government hopes that this will be a positive first step for the community's economic growth,” said Tamsil.
Currently, the electricity needs for the seven villages are supplied directly by the Fakfak electricity system. In the process of approximately three months, PLN has built two substations with a capacity of 50 kVA, a substation with a capacity of 25 kVA, a medium voltage network of 15 kms and a low voltage network of 2 kms.
A total of 738 household customers with 900 VA power in the seven villages have now been electrified by PLN. In the future, the investment plan that will enter the Kokas District through PT Pupuk Kaltim, the Berau Bay Service Sea Toll Program, Tangguh LNG Investment Development of Tran III Ubadari Block and the National Strategic Road connecting Trans Papua will also have the potential to increase the number of customers in the area.
General Manager of PLN Main Unit for Papua and West Papua Region, Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin explained that PLN will continue to make efforts to electrify areas that do not yet have electricity in Papua and West Papua. “This is our effort to provide equitable electricity for all Indonesian people, including in West Papua. With good cooperation from various parties, we are able to electrify and serve customers 24 hours a day in these seven villages. We hope that reliable electricity from PLN can be useful for local residents," he explained.
