Six districts in West Papua received housing renovation assistance from the Directorate General of Housing (DG) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).
At least, there were 250 uninhabitable houses (RTLH) in the six districts that were operated on through the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program (BSPS).
The Director General (Dirjen) of Housing at the PUPR Ministry, Iwan Suprijanto, revealed that the distribution of BSPS was carried out throughout Indonesia, including West Papua.
Iwan said that the BSPS program involved the local government (Pemda) and the community as recipients of assistance to build houses independently with stimulant funds from the government.
This is carried out to realize livable houses, both in terms of resilience and building area, sanitation, and the availability of drinking water.
"The state is responsible for protecting the entire Indonesian nation through the implementation of housing and settlement areas so that people can live in decent and affordable houses throughout Indonesia," said Iwan as quoted from the release, Tuesday (12/7/2022).
In addition, the environment in which people live must also be healthy, safe, harmonious and sustainable.
The amount of assistance provided varies from Rp. 23.5 million for mainland Papua and Rp. 40 million for the mountainous region of Papua.
The target of 200 housing units for BSPS recipients will be implemented in five districts, namely Teluk Wondama Regency 40 units and Teluk Bintuni Regency 40 units.
Then, South Manokwari Regency 40 units, Tambrauw Regency 40 units, and Maybrat Regency 40 units.
Meanwhile, the remaining 50 units will be implemented by improving the quality of regular self-help houses.
The BSPS is a central government assistance through the Ministry of PUPR for low-income people (MBR).
