House of Representatives Commission I member Yan Permanes Mandenas denied Merauke Regent Romanus Mbaraka's statement that he and other legislators from the Papuan electoral district had received some money to change articles in the revision of the Special Autonomy Law (UU Otsus) for Papua, so that South Papua could become an autonomous region. new or DOB.
"What the Regent of Merauke said is not true at all, because we have never received anything from him," said Yan Mandenas, Thursday (14/7).
The DPR member from the Papuan electoral district admitted that he had contacted Regent Romanus via cell phone to clarify his statement so that it would not become a polemic in the community.
"We are fighting for the interests of Papua, not personal interests, groups or certain groups," he stressed again.
From the communication via cell phone, said Yan Mandenas, Merauke Regent Romanus Mbaraka gave an explanation to the public about the statement in his video circulating on social media.
"Because what we have done has been maximized as a form of accountability for the Papuan people through the revision of the Special Autonomy Law for Papua and the Draft Law on the Formation of new autonomous regions into law," he said.
Mandenas admitted that during his time as Deputy Chair of the Special Committee for the Papua Special Autonomy Bill, he did not accept or ask anyone for fees.
According to him, the Special Committee for the Special Autonomy Bill for Papua works professionally as a representative of the people by accommodating the aspirations of the people to revise the Papua Special Autonomy Bill, including the formation of new autonomous regions in Papua so that it will be better in the future and able to improve the welfare of the people in the region.
“What we are doing in the DPR is clearly visible. We discussed the revision of Otsus and the new autonomous regions in Papua for the benefit of the people. What the Merauke Regent said is not true," said Yan Mandenas reaffirming.
Yan Mandenas claimed to have reported to the leadership of the Gerindra Party regarding the viral video containing the Merauke Regent's statement.
The Gerindra Party leadership has ordered him to ask for clarification on the allegation.
"I immediately reported it to the party leadership and was assigned to ask for clarification on the statement of the Merauke Regent Romanus Mbaraka as soon as possible," he explained.
Previously, a video circulating on social media contained a statement from the Regent of Merauke Romanus who claimed to have given a sum of money to Yan Mandenas and Komarudin Watubun in order to realize the Province of South Papua.
Regent Romanus admitted that it was not easy to create a new province in Papua because he had to change the articles in the Special Autonomy Law.
One of them is changing the authority of expansion not only to the authority of the DPRP, MRP, and regional heads, but the central government can submit proposals for expansion based on people's aspirations.
"Finally the article was changed, the proposal for the formation of a new province could be carried out by the central government, not depending on the DPRP, MRP, and the governor, but it could be withdrawn as a proposal from the central government. We are fighting hard, all of that costs money," he said.
