Regional heads in 13 districts and cities throughout West Papua Province support the implementation of special autonomy (otsus) and encourage the formation of new autonomous regions (DOB) based on the mandate of Law Number 2 of 2021.
The support was expressed by 13 regional heads through the signing of a statement of attitude at the opening of the Regional Working Meeting (Rakerda) of Regents and Mayors throughout West Papua at the PKK Building of West Papua Province, Manokwari, Tuesday.
Quoted from the Antara news agency, the Acting (Pj.) Governor of West Papua Paul Waterpauw said that their commitment shows that West Papua Province obeys the principles and laws and regulations that apply in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
“If yesterday there were ripples of 'rejecting' special autonomy and new autonomous regions, today is over. As many as 13 regional heads have expressed their support, witnessed directly by the alliance of the Papuan and Nusantara Tribal Heads, cultural institutions, and community leaders," said Waterpauw.
It was also said that the statement of support and aspirations for the new autonomous regions would soon be combined with the aspirations of the tribal chiefs before being submitted to the Minister of Home Affairs, DPR RI, MPR RI, DPD RI, to President Joko Widodo in Jakarta.
"We are ready to facilitate it up to Mr. President Joko Widodo. That West Papua fully supports all development programs from the central government aimed at the welfare of the people through special autonomy and autonomous regions," said Paulus Waterpauw.
He mentioned 13 regions that are ready to receive special autonomy and autonomous regions, namely Manokwari, Kaimana, Fakfak, Teluk Wondama, Bintuni Bay, Raja Ampat, Tambrauw, Maybrat, South Sorong, Arfak Mountains, South Manokwari, Sorong City, and Sorong Regency.
